Joan Walton received her BFA from Pratt Institute, majoring in photography. Her foray into clay work began after a career as an art director and photo editor. In that capacity she designed and produced official guides to the Olympic Games over the course of sixteen years and received the Champion Paper Imagination Award for her work on Centennial, a book celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. She studied ceramics at Parsons School of Design as a continuing education student, as well as attending a broad variety of workshops with many of the nation’s most talented ceramic artists. After some years as a potter, making hand-built clay vessels developed into her primary focus. Her award-winning ceramic work has been exhibited widely in the United States, as well as abroad. Walton lives in New York City and Montauk, NY.
